About the DepartmentThe Department offers U.G. courses from 2009 onwards. It is shining with a new U.G.course (B.A.,Eng Lit., (C.A..)) and flourishes under the headship of Mrs.M.Chitra and with 7 zealous faculty members. It has a modernized communication lab.
Every year all our faculty members group in a teamwork and conduct classes for Diploma in ommunicative English, a one-year course for all U.G. and P.G. students. The faculty members of various departments have enrolled themselves in this course.
To enhance the knowledge about Fiction and Jane Austen, the Department telecasted Jane Austen’s Novel – Pride and Prejudice on 9th July 2010.
English Literary Association Function Literaria’11 was held at college auditorium on 14th August 2010.
Ms.G.Menaka, Professor of English, P.S.G.College of Technology,Coimbatore delivered an awesome speech on “Effective Communication Skills”. Mr.S.A.Palanisamy, Asst. Prof. of English presented a Paper on the topic “Women are doubly discriminated – Maya Angelous I know why the caged birds sing” at Nirmala College for Women. Coimbatore on 14th Sep 2010 and on 10th Dec 2010 at Vellalar College for Women, Erode presented a Paper on the topic “Voices of the marginalized with reference to Maya Angelous I know why the caged birds sing”.
Mrs.P.Seethalaxmi, Asst. Prof. of English presented a Paper at United Institute of Technology, oimbatore on 18th and 19th March 2011, titled “The Role of Brain in learning English as a Second anguage”.
Mr. R.Gokulraj of II B.A.English Literature(C.A) presented a Paper entitled “Gender Portrayal in nita Desai’s Novel Cry the Peacock” at Nirmala College for Women. Coimbatore on 4th Sep 2010. R.Gokulraj , R.Ganeshkumar and V.Srija of II B.A.English Literature(C.A) won Third Prize in Quiz Competition conducted by Tamilnadu Forest Department on account of Wild Life week on 6th Oct 2010.
R.Prince, K.Prabakaran, S.Srividhya, V.Srija of II B.A.English Literature(C.A) and D.Ronald Hadrian, .Krishnamoorthy of I B.A.English Literature(C.A) accoladed Third Prize in A Dramatic Bonanza, An Inter-collegiate Meet held at KG College of Arts and Science on 12th Feb 2011. Contests for the Future Teachers were conducted in the name of REDBOS’11 at our college auditorium on 4th March 2011. The candidates from various D.T.Ed., colleges participated and won prizes.
On 4th March 2011 our I B.A., and II B.A., students exhibited their talents and enthralled the audience by enacting various scenes from Shakespeare’s Play – Romeo and Juliet, during the Valediction of REDBOS’11. To expose and to enrich the knowledge of the students, and to widen their outlook about Charles Dickens, the Department telecasted Charles Dickens’ fictions- Oliver Twist and Great Expectations to the students on 5th March 2011.
Special Coaching for Placement:Mr.S.A.Palanisamy and Ms.J.Kiruthika, faculties of our department conduct special coaching classes for Communication Skills for Final year students of all U.G. and P.G. courses to be placed in reputed companies.
